Chesapeake Antique Motorcycle Club Awarded First Place at the Maryland International Motorcycle Show Feb. 9 to 11, 2024 Timonium, MD

PicturePictured are Chesapeake Antique Motorcycle Club members after being awarded first place for club display.

Chesapeake Chapter - Antique Motorcycle Club of America was awarded First Place in the Club Display category at the 2024 Timonium Motorcycle Show at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium, Maryland. The chapter had a display of 21 antique motorcycles  by chapter members. They also had information tables where they could answer questions about the hobby of collecting antique motorcycles, as well as opportunity for attendees to join the national club and local chapter. The award included a large trophy and a cash prize. The Timonium Motorcycle Show has been a regular opportunity for many years for people that enjoy the sport and hobby of motorcycling to get out to an event and break winter's cabin fever hold. The Motorcycle Show started years back at the Baltimore Civic Center. The Timonium show is presented by Jam-On Productions of Baltimore.

Motor Maids, Inc. joined the fun at the 2023 Timonium Motorcycle Show. Chesapeake Chapter AMCA members Sharon Panhead and Cheryl North are Motor Maids members. Motor Maids unite women motorcyclists in promoting motorcycle interest.  The initial organizational Constitutional Article establishing the requirements for membership has remained the Motor Maid  hallmark since the first meeting – membership shall consist of women who legally own and operate their own motorcycle or one belonging to a family member. The organization was formally started in 1940 after the earlier  vision of a young woman named Linda Dugeau of Providence, Rhode Island. Ms. Dugeau conceived the idea that there might be a number of women who owned their own motorcycles and might be interested in becoming acquainted with one another.  Motor Maids was awarded Charter # 509 of The American Motorcycle Association in 1941.  www.motormaidsinc.org/about/

RESEARCHING CCAMCA HISTORY: CAN YOU HELP?  Chesapeake Chapter AMCA is researching the history of what originally was the Chesapeake Antique Motorcycle Club (CAMC) until the club was invited to be a chapter by the Antique Motorcycle Club of America (AMCA) in 1979. Chesapeake officially became a chapter (#10) in 1980. The club met for a number of years at the Pikesville (Maryland) Armory in Baltimore County. Chesapeake Chapter AMCA welcomes the sharing of any bits of information, historical images, documents, etc. Contact for this is Mike Love at mikelove44@gmail.com Thank You

The early meeting place for pre-AMCA Chapter Chesapeake Antique Motorcycle Club was this building. It is known as the NCO Club and is located at the old Pikesville Maryland Armory on MD Route 140 - Reisterstown Road. Mort Wood the first club president was a caretaker at the Armory and acquired the space for meetings. Mort remained president for many years and served on the AMCA Board as well and is an AMCA Honorary Member after his many years of work for the national club. Chesapeake Chapter continued to meet at the NCO Club for a number of years.

If you plan to be in Baltimore, MD on a Thursday evening between September and May you may enjoy a visit to the repurposed old Broom Factory in the Canton neighborhood of Baltimore. The old factory has been renovated and is in an area of the city that has had a thriving residential and business community. The Broom Factory kindly donates a large space to Mid-Atlantic Vintage Bikes to house and display their vast collection of motorcycles and all sorts of related memorabilia. The Chesapeake Chapter of the AMCA recently conducted their monthly meeting at the Mid-Atlantic Vintage Bike home.

Check out the photos below and if you are interested contact Mid-Atlantic Vintage Bikes member Mike Slate at (443) 986-1420, info@maossa.com

The Broom Factory is located at 3500 Boston St, Baltimore, MD 21224
